The PE and Sport Premium is designed to help primary schools improve the quality of the PE and sport activities they offer their pupils.

The amount of funding allocated is based upon the number of children in year groups 1 to 6, for 2017/18. Schools with over 17 eligible pupils receive an allocation of £16,000 plus an allocation based upon the Year 1 - 6 numbers for 2017/18. For our school, this totalled £17, 780.

Schools are free to choose the best way of using the money. In Thurlby, a large percentage of the funding has been used to hire specialist qualified sports coaches to work with teachers in the delivery of their lessons. 'Premier Sports' coaches have been employed for this purpose; they were selected following a review of available providers on the basis of feedback from other schools, the range of sports tuition offered and value for money.

As a result of the funding, the percentage of pupils involved in physical activities has increased. The school has been able to raise the profile of P.E./Games through assemblies etc. as we celebrate achievement in an increased number and more diverse range of competitive events.

The school was successful in achieving the 'Silver Schools Games' mark at the beginning of the academic year.
